Multiport Fuel Injection Project

I have been planning to go to EFI for a long time, but a couple of things made me keep putting it off:

Lack of hood clearnace. EFI systems are taller than the Torker II/Carb setup and would necessitate a different hood.

Cost. Back when I last looked at EFI a system was atleast $3000.

Complexity of install.

So I kept trying to make my carbs work. I went from the stock Q-jet to a Holley 750. The Holley made good power (390 rwhp), but stalled under hard braking. It also never opened the secondaries right, no matter what spring I used. In addition, it had an off idle hesitation I could never tune out. It was probably caused by the Torker II.

When the Holley stripped a fuel bowl thread I spent over $400 on a Demon carb, just to find it had the exact same issues as the Holley.

Next I spent close to $300 on a 800 CFM Edelbrock EPS. The edelbrock had better driveability than the Holley/Demon. The off idle hesitation was less. Power was smooth going to WOT. RPM's still decreased under hard braking, although it didn't stall as easily. However, I noticed it didn't feel as powerfull as with the Holley, and the Dyno confirmed it: Power was down 35 hp at the wheels and torque was down 40 ft-lbs.

This, and a letter from Summit informing me I would get a 10% discount on any order prior to April 20th finally made me decide the time was right for EFI!
